Danube Valley Tour: Melk Abbey & Historic Towns
The Danube Valley tour takes you through some of the most beautiful and historic parts of Austria. This region is famous for its wine and boasts a rich history, including the Benedictine Abbey of Melk, which was founded in 1089 and is one of the highlights of the tour.
Visitors will be able to see the impressive imperial rooms, the grand marble hall, and the famous library with its vast collection of 80,000 tomes and beautiful ceiling frescos.
After visiting Melk, the tour continues to the romantic town of Durnstein, known for its walls and battlement turrets, and the Schloss Durnstein, the former castle where King Richard Lionhearted was held as a prisoner. On the way back to Vienna, you will also pass through Krems, a town that has been a center of wine, salt, and iron trade since the 10th century.
