Its central position, the excellent infrastructure with one of the biggest airports in Europe and its internationalism make Frankfurt a leading European city.
Discover the historic heart of the city called “Römer”- the famous old city hall-, the Paul’s Church and the Cathedral. See the Old Opera, do some shopping on the shopping street “ Zeil or visit the Goethe House. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born on 28th August 1749 at this house. You will be lead through the different floors of Goethe’s family home- see the Dining room, Goethe’s writing room etc . On the third floor a short history of the house and it’s residents can be found. Next door to the Goethe Haus is the Goethe museum, a 14-room gallery showcasing artworks from the writer’s time.
End your sightseeing tour with lunch in a typical apple wine pub. Enjoy some delicious apple wine in one of the numerous rustically decorated pubs and enjoy typical regional dishes such as Handkäse ( typical cheese from the region) or Frankfurter Grüne Sosse ( specialty of Frankfurt: Sauce with 7 different herbs and sour cream served with boiled potatoes and e.g. eggs).
But Frankfurt is also a perfect starting point for great excursions. Visit romantic Heidelberg with the beautiful castle (partially in ruins) towering above the picturesque medieval town center. An excursion to the Rhine Valley starting from Frankfurt is also an absolute must. Admire the beautiful landscape, the charming little vineyards, and the mighty medieval castles during a boat trip on a Rhine steamer and end the day with a wine tasting in a little tavern.
