11:00AM – Sightseeing Tour of Hamburg
When talking about their home town, the normally reserved people of Hamburg are not reticent about blowing their own trumpet. You see, most of them take it for granted that it’s the most beautiful city in Germany. And even if residents of other cities should dare to voice their protest, Hamburg really does have a lot to offer: Jungfernstieg with its upmarket shops, the downtown lakes (the Binnenalster and the Aussenalster), the Reeperbahn (Hamburg’s entertainment district), the largest harbour in Germany and the old Speicherstadt. The strikingly picturesque commercial and warehouse complex with its unmistakable red-brick architecture, green copper crowns, charming modest towers, bay windows and gabled roofs offers visitors unique views of historical urban beauty. Visitors are also taken by the number of beautiful small bridges over the countless canals. And all around, aromas of roasted coffee, of tea and various spices from around the world fill the air. Strolling through time, visitors discover the historical beauty of Hamburg’s Speicherstadt accompanied by a guide clad in the traditional robes of Hamburg’s merchants of old. On a little hill, not far from the harbour, you will find the “Michel”, Hamburg’s landmark. It is132 meters high and Germany’s most important protestant baroque building. The view from the platform in 82 meters height is worth the exhausting ascent of 432 stairs.
