Nuremberg is one of Germany’s most famous cities and its name is associated throughout the world with the drama of 20th century history. This was where the Third Reich strutted in all of its pomp against an epic backdrop of grandiose marching grounds, and this was where an international war crimes tribunal later held that same Nazi leadership to account amidst the rubble of the defeated city.
The Imperial castle atop the rocky promontory above Nuremberg is for sure one of the highlights of this Medieval town and should be part of your walking tour through the picturesque Old Town with its ensemble of historical buildings, imposing churches and romantic winding lanes. Outside the city walls you can visit the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds with the remaining architectural monuments designed by the National Socialists and the documentation center, but also the Nuremberg Palace of Justice where world history was written on November 20, 1945 when the trial against the “main war criminals” began in “Courtroom 600”.
Due to the proximity of Nuremberg to Munich, where I live, I had the pleasure to visit the city lots of times, mostly private but also for business reasons. The city is well-known for gingerbread, sauerkraut, saussages and the courtroom 600, but it is not a conserved city. It has a strong economy and is Bavarias 2nd largest city.
I recommend the private sightseeing tour which gives you a great overview and leaves enough time to sit down for a coffee break.
The restaurant Entenstuben is located in the quite area of Wöhrd, but still close to the center of Nuremberg. Fabian Denninger and his team serve excellent food in a simply and elegantly decorated restaurant.
