Duesseldorf

Düsseldorf, The Longest Bar in the World

A private evening in Duesseldorf's Altstadt: hosted Altbier tasting, MedienHafen aperitifs, dinner and a cocktail walk, with reserved tables throughout.

Duesseldorf’s Altstadt concentrates something like three hundred pubs, brewhouses and bars into a few streets, which is where the nickname comes from. What makes it worth a curated evening rather than a wander is the range: centuries-old brewhouses where the Altbier arrives without being asked stand a few minutes from design-led cocktail rooms and waterside lounges. This private evening moves your clients between the two with a host who knows the order to do it in.

Three quarters worth knowing

  • Altstadt: heritage breweries, standing tables, copper kettles and a great deal of street energy
  • MedienHafen: statement architecture in a converted dock, sunset drinks on the water and the city’s most polished bars
  • Kunst und Kultur: a private gallery visit or a quiet museum hour before dinner, for guests who want the evening to start with something other than a drink

What we arrange

A progressive Altbier tasting hosted by a brewer, with a reserved table and something to eat alongside, is the natural opening and explains the city better than any monument. From there a cocktail walk through the design-forward rooms, with menus agreed in advance and a stop worth photographing, gives the evening its second half. Late on, a hidden bar for dessert and a digestif closes the loop. Every element is optional and can be reordered; some clients want only the brewhouses, others skip them entirely and spend the whole evening on the water. Altbier itself is worth a paragraph of the host’s attention: dark, top-fermented, served in small straight glasses that are replaced without being ordered until the guest puts a beer mat on top, and brewed on the premises in several of the houses your clients will sit in.

A sample evening

A shape that works: an Altbier welcome with a tasting flight at around 18:30, a short hosted walk to the MedienHafen for aperitifs on the water at 19:45, a seasonal regional dinner from a pre-agreed menu at 20:30 with a vegetarian option always included, a two-stop cocktail walk with reserved areas from around 22:15, and an optional nightcap in a speakeasy after midnight with the car on standby. Timings move to suit the party.

Practical notes and what it pairs with

Dress is smart-casual and some rooms prefer closed shoes for men. Door policies tighten at weekends; our hosts manage the timings so your clients are not standing in a queue. Transfers combine short walks with the car, arranged under our private chauffeured transfers. The evening runs all year, with the waterfront terraces at their best from May to September and the old town at its most festive in December. It follows the Duesseldorf sightseeing walking tour or the Koenigsallee shopping tour very comfortably. Further products sit in our Duesseldorf portfolio and the city overview on the Duesseldorf destination page.
