Hamburg- Bremen – Full Day Excursion to Bremen

Bremen carries twelve hundred years of history and, unusually for a German city, tells it mostly through stories rather than monuments: the Roland statue, the hen and her chicks, the Seven Lazy Men and of course the Bremen Town Musicians, who never actually reached the city. What the walk takes in

The guide covers the Hanseatic city’s principal set pieces: the six-hundred-year-old town hall and the Roland statue beside it, together inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site; the Boettcherstrasse, a narrow expressionist brick street built by a coffee merchant in the 1920s and unlike anything else in Germany; and the Schnoor, the oldest quarter, a tangle of tiny gabled fishermen’s houses now full of workshops. Between them the guide unpacks the legends, which in Bremen are not decoration but the way the city has always explained itself.

Lunch in the Ratskeller

We propose lunch in the cellar beneath the town hall, a restaurant that has existed for more than six hundred years and changed its name from the wine cellar to the City Wine Cellar to the Ratsweinkeller and finally the Ratskeller. It holds one of the oldest collections of German wine in the country and is covered by the same UNESCO listing as the building above it. A tasting of German whites precedes the meal. For clients who care about wine, this is frequently the highlight of the day rather than an interval in it.
