Visit of Mercedes- Benz and Porsche Museum
Mercedes-Benz and Porsche Museums – Private Day in Stuttgart Stuttgart is the only city in the world where two manufacturers…
View tourThe view that made the town famous was painted from the water, not from inside the old town.
The view that made Heidelberg famous was painted from the water and from the far bank, not from inside the old town. This private two-hour boat tour on the Neckar gives your clients that view for the length of an afternoon, with regional wine and something to eat on board and a guide who talks when there is something to say and stops when the river is doing the work.
The boat runs the stretch of river that frames the town. The castle ruin sits above the right bank in red sandstone, and from midstream your clients see how it is built into the hillside rather than perched on top of it. The Old Bridge with its twin gate towers passes overhead; behind it the roofs of the Altstadt climb to the Church of the Holy Spirit, and on the opposite slope the Philosophers’ Walk cuts a line through the terraced gardens. Further out the valley opens into wooded hills and the river locks, which are worth watching in their own right.
Wine on board is drawn from the Baden and Palatinate vineyards on either side of the Rhine plain, an hour from where the boat is sailing – Riesling and the Pinot family in the main, with a Sekt to open if the occasion calls for it. Regional snacks accompany them: bread, cheese, cured ham and whatever the season has produced. Alcohol-free alternatives are arranged on request and are not an afterthought.
This is the right choice for couples, for small parties celebrating something, and for guests who have already walked the town and want a different vantage point. It is also the kindest option on a hot day, when the climb to the castle is punishing. Pair it with the Heidelberg and castle walking tour in the morning for the inside of the ruin, or with the Heidelberg gourmet walk if the party wants to keep eating rather than climbing. River cruise passengers berthing nearby are handled through our Heidelberg pre and post cruise programme, and the rest of the town programme sits in our Heidelberg portfolio.
