Lübeck

Luebeck was the capital of the Hanseatic League, and its old town island — brick Gothic, seven spires, the Holstentor leaning slightly into the ground it was built on — is a UNESCO World Heritage site that can be walked in an afternoon. This archive holds the two ways our clients reach it.

The private walking tour covers the Holstentor and the salt warehouses, the Marienkirche, the merchants’ courtyards and passageways that most visitors never find, and the Buddenbrookhaus connection to Thomas and Heinrich Mann. Marzipan at Niederegger is the standard finish and is worth the cliché.

The second programme is a full-day shore excursion from the Warnemuende cruise port: a private car and guide from the pier to Luebeck, the old town programme, and back well inside the all-aboard. For Baltic calls it is the strongest alternative to Berlin, which is three hours away in each direction and leaves a short day at the end of a long coach ride — the Warnemuende to Luebeck day is ninety minutes each way and gives the clients an afternoon instead of a motorway.

Luebeck also runs as a half-day from Hamburg, forty-five minutes away, and combines with the Baltic resort of Travemuende. All programmes are private, with a licensed guide throughout.
