Shore Excurison Warnemuende- Luebeck

Private shore excursion from Warnemuende to Luebeck: UNESCO old town, Marienkirche and Buddenbrookhaus with your own guide and driver, back before sailing.

Most ships calling at Warnemuende send their passengers to Berlin. Luebeck is the quieter and, for many travellers, the more rewarding alternative: a complete medieval Hanseatic capital on an island in the Trave, reachable in a comfortable morning drive and small enough to be understood in a single day. This private shore excursion collects your clients at the pier and returns them there, with an English-speaking driver and a dedicated Luebeck guide.

Pier to old town

An English-speaking driver waits at the Warnemuende cruise terminal with a name sign and departs at around 08:30, so the party is in Luebeck well before the day-trippers arrive. The road runs west along the Baltic coast and takes comfortably under two hours, which leaves a genuine day in the town rather than a hurried hour between two transfers. At approximately 10:00 your clients meet a Luebeck specialist and begin on foot in the historic centre – a compact medieval town ringed by water and nature reserve, with roughly 1,800 listed buildings inside the old moat.

What the walk covers

  • The Rathaus, built between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries and among the most striking town halls in Germany
  • The Marienkirche, the brick-Gothic model copied all around the Baltic, and its memorial chapel holding the bells that fell during the air raid of 1942
  • The Buddenbrookhaus, the Mann family residence that gave the novel its name
  • A coffee break inside a sixteenth-century shipping warehouse
  • The Behnhaus, a neoclassical merchant house showing Romantic painting including Friedrich Overbeck, and the adjoining Draegerhaus with mementoes of Thomas and Heinrich Mann

Lunch, the waterfront and the return

Lunch is taken at a small restaurant in town rather than on a schedule, and the afternoon closes with a drive out to the port and the seaside resort district on the Baltic before the transfer back to the ship. Marzipan is unavoidable and should be planned for. We build the return with a deliberate buffer against all-aboard time; the driver stays with the party throughout, so there is no waiting for a coach and no fixed group pace. Vehicle classes and multi-day chauffeur arrangements are set out under our private transfers and tours.

Who should book it, and the alternatives

This day suits clients who have already seen Berlin, guests who prefer one town done properly to a capital seen through a windscreen, and anyone with an interest in Thomas Mann, brick Gothic or Hanseatic trade. It is comfortable from May to September, the months when most ships call. If the party would rather have a port city with a working harbour, the Warnemuende to Hamburg shore excursion is the counterpart; if the capital is non-negotiable, take the Berlin shore excursion by private car instead. Further Luebeck products are listed in our Luebeck tour portfolio.
