10:00 AM: Meet our Luebeck expert and start your tour in the former Imperial City and Hanseatic town. Begin in the historic city center, a picturesque medieval town ringed by water and nature preserves. Pass the ancient Rathaus, built in the 13th -15th century, one of the most magnificent town halls in all of Germany. Continue on to the ‘(13th – 14th century) ‘Marienkirche’, the model for many of the brick churches dotting the Baltic region. The memorial chapel houses the bells which sounded the warning for the 1942 bombing raid. Pass Thomas Mann’s family residence the ‘Buddenbrookshaus, before taking for a coffee break at an old shipping warehouse from the 16th century. Visit the Neo Classical Behnhaus Museum to see works form the Romantic school (esp Friedrich Overbeck) and the adjoining Drägerhaus to see mementoes of Thomas Mann and Heinrich Mann. Stop for lunch at a quaint place in town. Continue tour with a visit to the port and seaside resort areas before departing for Hamburg
