Most ships calling at Warnemuende send their passengers to Berlin. Luebeck is the quieter and, for many travellers, the more rewarding alternative: a complete medieval Hanseatic capital on an island in the Trave, reachable in a comfortable morning drive and small enough to be understood in a single day. An English-speaking driver waits at the Warnemuende cruise terminal with a name sign and departs at around 08:30, so the party is in Luebeck well before the day-trippers arrive. The road runs west along the Baltic coast and takes comfortably under two hours, which leaves a genuine day in the town rather than a hurried hour between two transfers. At approximately 10:00 your clients meet a Luebeck specialist and begin on foot in the historic centre – a compact medieval town ringed by water and nature reserve, with roughly 1,800 listed buildings inside the old moat.
