Munich- Berchtesgaden & Eagle’s Nest – Full Day Private Excursion (10 hrs)
Starting from Munich
You will be picked up at your hotel and will enjoy the nice landscape on your way to Berchtesgaden.
Here you will have the possibility to visit the documentation center at the Obersalzberg mountain a place of guided learning and remembrance – It offers the visitor to this historic site the opportunity to study and reflect on the history of Obersalzberg and the history of National Socialism.
A special bus and an elevator tunneled straight through rock then bring you up to the Eagle‘s Nest (usually open by the middle of May), built by the Nazi party for Hitler‘s 50th birthday.
The road leading from Obersalzberg (formerly Hitler’s home and southern headquarters) to the Eagle’s Nest parking lot is considered to be a feat of engineering. Perched at 1.834 m (6.017 ft), the building itself was a project of Martin Bormann’s and given to Adolf Hitler for his 50th birthday as a teahouse for diplomats.
The Eagle’s Nest remained unscathed from the bombing of the Allied Forces during WWII. Since 1952 it has been open to the public as a mountain top restaurant with a spectacular view and is accessed only by special mountain buses from Obersalzberg.
Due to its high elevation the Eagle’s Nest is open in summer only, usually from about mid-May through October.
In the event of bad weather conditions such as snow, ice or fog, it will not be possible to visit the Obersalzberg, alternatively a visit to the salt mines in Berchtesgaden could be included.
